EmpowerK12’s DC Math Hub and the Washington Nationals collaborated to host the first Capital Math Classic on May 14, 2026 in the PNC Diamond Club at Nationals Park.

More than 350 students from 88 schools answered mathematical problem-solving questions, competing to earn the most points in 45-minute rounds. Each team of four students competed against the other teams in their grade band.

Elementary Division

Elementary school students in grades 3-5 will find problems they can solve.

  • There are four problems for each of the four categories.

  • The four problems range in point value from 100 to 400.

  • The point value determines the complexity of the problem.

  • Teams can divide and conquer to solve the problems in any order.

  • There are five problems for each of the four categories.

  • The five problems range in point value from 100 to 500.

  • The point value determines the complexity of the problem.

  • Teams can divide and conquer to solve the problems in any order.
